Our visit to Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer) begins with a ride on an electric tram that carves its way up the side of Corcovado, sometimes going directly between houses. It's quite a contraption. There are little statues and plants along the way. We noticed the presence of this fruit, called Jaca or "Jackfruit" in the local parlance; otherwise known as the stinkiest fruit on earth, called durian in Asia. I didn't get a very clear photo, but isn't it lovely? I hear these things can do a lot of damage when they fall.

The views of the city from Corcovado are quite beautiful.

I'm not actually staring at those people. It just looks that way here.

The statue itself is quite impressive too.

Pão de Açúcar (Sugarloaf Mountain), on the other hand, is reached by a couple of high-flying gondolas. They're quite sturdy, and views on the way up are impressive.

There's a bit of wildlife up there.

Here's some fun and unexpected wildlife. These little guys are super fast, so it's hard to get a clear photo of them.

This tree does not like to be touched.

Here's me in the bamboo. This was not actually the biggest that we saw, even.

Vultures. Just waiting.... Sad to say we disappointed them.

Maybe you've heard of the Rio Scenarium? No? Perhaps you've heard of The Guardian (of London) Top 10 Bars in the World, then? Our very gracious Rotary friends Sergio and Mara helped us get through the door. The club is incredible, and the bands were amazingly talented. A wonderful way to pass an evening.
