Bangkok is a bit hard to navigate for those not in the know. The little bit that we know is that you can take a commuter boat down the river and go shopping and sight seeing.
This is the dock where we caught the boat.

This is the dock where we waited for 15 minutes before realizing that the boat we wanted went in the other direction, and we were on the wrong dock.

These next few pictures are what you might call pictures that I am quite resentful of. You see, we were on our way to the Grand Palace to do some sightseeing when a very "helpful" "security guard" (he had a uniform, people - I'm not a complete sucker) told us that due to the government problems the Palace was closed for the morning and it would open in two hours, but there was another Buddha we could go see in the meantime, and he knew a "nice" "shopping center", and would we like to take a tuk-tuk, and hey let me just flag down a "random" driver for you guys.
This is a picture from inside the tuk-tuk.

This is the temple. We weren't allowed to take pictures of the Buddha.

So after this the "shopping center" turned out to be a gem and jewelry store, and after we explained to the driver that we didn't want any jewelry, he took us to a tailor shop. It was at this point that Sara turned to me and said "You know, it said in the guide book that a common scam is to tell you something is closed so they can try to take you shopping." I said, "I remember reading that too, now." We tried to argue with him for a bit, but then had to ditch him. While we were walking back to the palace, we saw a few interesting things.

So can you guess what happened when we got back to the Palace? Oh no, that guy was long gone. However, not one, but three different people tried to tell us that the Palace was closed! Not the best introduction to the city. We ignored them and went through the gate.

Wat Pho is home to the famous reclining Buddha.
